The New England FSSA will have Tent City at the campus of RISD on Sunday, October 29th, from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon.

We'll have a donation drive at the Tent City for the following items;
canopy tents, blankets, hats & mittens, pocket warmers, health snacks, and dry food (crackers and etc.)

We are still looking for a place to have Tent City. We won't have the Tent City at TLC. Boston Common is out as well. We'd need permission from City Hall and we're not an organization. We're looking into Rhode Island. Stay Tuned.

Today, in what was the largest faculty meeting ever at Gallaudet University, 138 of the 168 faculty members present demanded that Dr. Fernandes either resign or be removed from the position of President designate. The meeting, held in the Foster Auditorium, from 4:00 to 7:15 pm, represented 76 percent of the 221 faculty eligible to vote.

Other resolutions addressed included votes of no confidence in President I. King Jordan as the leader of Gallaudet University, passed with 80 in favor and 60 opposed and votes of no confidence in the Board of Trustees passed with 106 ayes and 10 nays. The faculty passed a resolution that there be no reprisals for community members involved in the protest by a vote of 133 to 15.

Also passed unanimously was a motion that faculty and Board of Trustee members examine other models for inclusion of faculty, students, staff and alumni as members of the Board and set a time line for incorporation of one of these models into practice.

Four additional proposals that dealt with process issues were postponed to a special meeting to be scheduled within the month.

I have been getting emails from concerned people lately, asking me what can they do and what are the issues really about. I hope this will help gauge or "wrist-pulse" the Deaf Community in New England.

So I set up the blogsite for everyone to particapte in the discussion about the protest among us New Englanders. I also set up a YahooGroup email distrubution, NewEngland_GallyProtests@yahoogroups.com. If you want to join and subscribe it, email NewEngland_GallyProtests-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You would need a Yahoo ID and Password if you want to subscribe the emails.

Perhaps with enough support and interest, we could pitch our own Tent City in support of the protests. And hopefully help you and others understand what are the real issues of the protests. Anyone is welcome to join. You don't have to be a Gallaudet alumni to post your comments. Even for those who disagree with the protests are welcome to post theirs. It's fair for everyone to hear all sides of the issues. I do expect we treat each other with respect, even if one disagrees with one another.

I listed the links on your right side of the screen for updates and following up the protest in DC. I will add more links as much I can.
